Blue Springs Baseball Mourns the Passing of Scott Barelmann
For over a decade, Scott called the game the way it was meant to be called - with clarity, fairness, and an unwavering respect for the players who trusted his judgment. His voice, firm but never harsh, echoed across diamonds big and small. “Strike”, “Ball”, “Safe”, “Out” – all are simple words. But when delivered with conviction, innings, seasons, and memories are shaped.
He was more than an umpire. He was a constant presence in a game defined by change. Players came and went and crowds grew louder - but Scott remained steady. He knew that his role was not to be seen, but to see - to observe every pitch, every swing, every play at the plate with integrity and care.
Baseball is often described as timeless, a game that connects generations. In many ways, so did Scott. His presence stitched together countless games, countless lives, leaving behind a legacy not measured in calls made, but in respect earned.
Even though Scott hadn’t umpired with BSB in over five years, his influence never truly left the field - it lives on in the next generation - the younger umpires who step behind the plate and onto the field with confidence shaped by lessons he helped build.
Every new umpire who walks into a classroom or takes their position on the field is, in some way, learning from Scott. The mechanics they practice, the judgment they refine, the steady presence they strive to embody - these are all threads of a foundation he helped create. His knowledge didn’t fade with time; it was passed down, reinforced, and carried forward by those he taught and inspired.
That is the kind of legacy that doesn’t disappear. It grows quietly, one call at a time, in every game played with integrity and care.
Scott may have stepped away from the field years ago, but his voice, his standards, and his dedication remain woven into the very fabric of BSB umpiring - guiding each new umpire who takes up the role he once held so well.
